Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
....which is no easy task in the People's State of MA.....I've owned guns for years, which when I first purchased them, were perfectly legal by virtue of the Fed firearm ID I card possessed...until 1988....then, they suddenly became illegal, apparently. Thanks to the liberals, that want to save me from myself...but I digress...
So, first step, I am taking a gun safety class, which is a prerequisite to getting a Class A license to carry. Okay, easy enough, other than the fact that it takes place over 3 days; the nice part is the last day of it, which takes place at a shooting range. Cool - at least I get to have a little fun along the way. Now, once I get the safety class under my belt, then I have to apply for the permit with the town policie chief, and it is totally at his discretion whether or not he grants me a Class A license. In fact, as I found out last night, my town has a reputation as one of the harder towns in the state to get Class A's (a local gun rights organization actually color-coded each town based on the difficulty of getting carry permits and, naturally, I am in one of the "red zones").... Apparently here in the People's State, gun laws are particularly nasty. In fact, if you get caught with a single bullet in your possession and you are not authorized to carry weapons or ammo, it will cost you two years in the clinker. Even if I should get such a lisence, I still have to contend with all the requirements regarding carrying and storage, which are numerous.... As a a sat in the clas last night listening to this, I just got angrier and angrier....who are these people, I thought, that think they have the right to restrict my second amendment rights? What do they think, that the police can protect everyone all the time? And why the hell do I have to go through all of this, if some cop can deny me a permit at the end anyway? Do you realize how stupid all of this is? Who is being "protected"? Why are the politicians so afraid of us? I honestly believe this as a moot point in the end, we are heading for a total prohibition, based on what I heard....it is nearly impossible to comply with all the regulations and laws now, complete prohibition is just a short step away... Damn them all....both parties, they are both to blame for this, the one for causing it and the other for going along with it....I will NEVER vote for the two parties ever again (and I haven't in recent history anyway).. Mad as Hell. |

This is precisely why I refused to accept job offers in Massachusetts.

BTW, Meatman, does Obama remind you a little of the Rock?...he sort of sounds like him, too...."all you candy @asses out there..." |
Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
Well I hear your pain. However you have to decide where you draw the line. You seem willing to give in. If you want a permit to carry you obviously know what can happen if you cannot defend yourself. How are you going to feel if you are out with your wife/husband, girlfriend/boyfriend and you are held at gunpoint while some thugs savagely beat and kill your significant other? There are some law abiding citizens who have had to live through this scenario. Should ignorant legislatures and a willing public be allowed to do this to people? Are we really free? Does the 2nd Amendment matter anymore?
Maybe we all should just drink ourselves to death and give into a welfare system. After all that is what they want. edit: Good luck with the process. Just be glad you don't live in Boston. They will not issue any LTC-A there. They only issue them to people like Barney Frank. |

Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
I got mine in Mass. about two years ago, so it can be done. I moved here from Florida with my guns and was instantly illegal. Took the class, paid my money, and got my LTC-A after about 6 months. Fortunately, I live in Western Mass. where it is more rural and hunting, etc. is accepted. The local LEO even brought the license to my house. The ap makes you declare you are a U.S. Citizen, and have no history of mental illness and no criminal record. It is true, in some towns you will never get a license, even if you are eligible. The laws are very restrictive, even if you have one. And you need one for mace, pepper spray, and tasers as well. It is unbelievable that this state was at the forefront of the revolutionary war. Be sure and put "All lawful purposes" for your reason on the application. Good luck.

I agree that it is unbelievable that a state that was at the forefront of the revolutionary war is so blatantly unconstitutional. I guess this is what happens when you let the wackos run the state government. Massachusetts will be in a firestorm soon considering they are just as bankrupt as Kalifornia. Hopefully they will learn something from failing as a social liberal state. |

You Got infuriated because you understood a great truth. NATURAL LAW SUPERCEEDS STATE LAW. The only time it dose not is when you willfully consent to a reverse logic of the natural order of things. I cant comment on your personal situation but my postion is quite clear: I AM NOT ASKING NOBODY.......... I REPEAT NOBODY FOR PERMISSION TO DEFEND MYSELF IF I THINK MY LIFE IN DANGER That is real sore spot for me .My Momma rasied me good she told me since I was small: WHEN THE LAW BREAKS COMMON SENSE YOU BREAK THE LAW. WHAT GOOD ARE YOU DEAD,DUMB OR STARVING??? Do what you gotta do........all I know is My Momma is rarely wrong. T |
Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
My husband is a MA firearms instructor. $100 bucks a class for freedom loving people. 1 day 4-6 hours and you have your certificate.
Three days for a gun class, that is retarded. Is this at Hanson Rod & Gun Club by any chance? Mass is getting out of control so we moved to Northern Massachusetts (New Hampshire) |
Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
^ No, the guys that teach it are affiliated with the Mansfield Gun club, and it was $120, not $100........today was the last of the 3 days, and we spent 2 hours at the range shooting, which was actually a hell of a good time....at least I got use up some ammo for my $120...and, I'll admit, I did learn a few things I didn't know, and got to try some guns I wouldn't have otherwise ever fired...example, the 9mm Beretta was a sweet little piece, but my favorites are still the revolvers, something about a revolver just warms me heart.....at the end of the class, everyone got the NRA pistol training certificates, which look nice, although they don't do anything for you in terms of getting you a permit...
Anyway, I finished the paperwork this afternoon, last step is to call da po-lice tomorrow morning and schedule my interview for the Class A permit.... BTW, I understand those of you that decided to forgo the legal route and just take your chances....I just figured that until the old shyte hits the proverbial fan, I'll play it legal and safe, besides which, having a permit opens up a lot more doors.....I've wanted to upgrade my firepower for a while, and you know how it is here...no ticky, no laundry... |
Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
If it's illegal, like you say to even carry ammo, what about when you buy it and carry it out to the car? OR.... do they not even sell it there?
Reminds me of a "COPS" show last week, .....drunk driver has a wreck, hits a tree, gets cracked up a little, goes to jail after the hospital visit, BUT the cop arrested the drunk passenger too....for "Public Intoxication", and the passenger was cooperative, mellow, didn't pitch a bitch or nothing, I was wondering how they could arrest a drunk passenger? what about the "Designated driver" program? or what if you call a taxi, so you don't have to drive? if this is true, you could be arrested in a taxi....what the hell is going on here? |

Re: Well, I finally Decided to Get My Class A License to Carry....
Update (I'm keeping this thread alive as an instructional for anyone in MA that wants to pursue their Class A license to carry, I think this may be of some help, since the process is a bit involved)....
......basically, once you pass the pistol safety training, you have to write a letter to your town police chief, explaining why you want a permit to carry.....you then provide two personal references and sign a "conditional advisory", which basically states that you understand that the police chief can put any reasonable restriction on your permit, etc., etc. Also, ther eis a $100 application fee, add that to the $120 training course fee, and your already out-of-pocket $220. I did all this and then scheduled an appointment with the police leutenant in charge of permitting....basically, that took about one hour, since they record all sorts of information on you, they even ask for your mother's maiden name and father's name (presumably, if your parents have a criminal history, that alone could be a reason to disqualify you).... BTW, unless you are squeeky clean, you can forget getting over this hurdle; they ask you if you have any major misdemeaners, felonies, or if you have even been a defendant in a criminal trial, etc. Also, more personal questions are asked, such as have you ever been confined for alcohol or drug abuse or had a restraining order put on you. Assuming you clear all of this, your information is entered into the state's firearm registration database (MIRC, I think it is called) and the background checks are triggered, which takes about 2-3 weeks. They then review all the relevant laws and what your responsibilities are, going forward....here's the part that's a little unsettling....if, at any point, you have a DUI or any criminal incident occur, you are required to notify the police department as soon as possible, so they can evaluate the sitaution and decide whether or not to pull your license; not that I am inclined toward crime, but this still struck me as a bit odd. Last step is the fingerprinting and photos and then your on your way. In 4-5 weeks, assuming the background checks go okay, I'l get my permit. The process itself was much more formalized than I expected, for some reason, I had the idea that getting a permit was more a subjective process where the police chief could approve or deny your request at whim. Basically, the police leutenant told me straight off that he was putting me in for Class A permit, with a restriction that the permit was valid for sport shooting only; in my town, this is SOP for first-time applicants; upon renewal, assuming I had no issues, they would then upgrade the permit to an unrestricted basis. So, that's the whole process......it takes some doing, but it can be done. There are some towns in MA that will issue unrestricted carry permits for first-time applicants, but I think most towns are more like mine, and a few (Boston townships) will not issue Class A permits to carry at all. Hope this helps some of you that might be considering going this route. |

No doubt the system is corrupt, especially at the Fed level, but honestly, a little training in order to carry a loaded gun in public is something that I think is not altogether a bad concept. The idea of doing so should definitely be encouraged however instead of discouraged. Some of the very experience people I know who have taken the class all tell me they learned more than they expected. I think this lady gives a good class. Anyway, I'm doing it for the same reasons you are. I was going to start a thread about it, and am glad you did. |
